SUMMARY:Outing to NT Avebury Manor
DESCRIPTION:Our last visit of the year is to Avebury – part of a World Heritage site – with its National Trust manor house (Grade 1 listed\, 16th century) and the well-known neolithic stone circle. The circle is older than Stonehenge and much larger\, as it used to enclose a village at some time in the past. Photos and further information can be found via this link to their website. \nThe visit will be an opportunity to see Avebury Manor in perfect condition since a major renovation\, as it was flooded in 2024 which closed it for about two years and it only reopened in Spring this year. Members will be able to wander around the manor and take part in a tour of the stones.\nThe manor and grounds include a museum created by the most recent owner\, Alexander Keiller\, an archeologist who had the wealth to indulge in both his interests as he was a very enthusiastic car collector. The wealth came from the family Keiller marmalade business. \nOnly one of his more exotic cars is at the Manor. This is an Anglo – French hybrid with the engine and chassis being built in France\, driven across to England and a body designed and built in England. This car in 1913 was driven from London to Edinburgh in under 12 hours. Oddly\, it is housed in an enclosed area of the barn where reception to the Avebury estate is located but is largely hidden so that the lighting does not disturb the bats that roost in the building!! \n \nA guided tour of the standing stones normally runs at midday and then at 13.00 and 14.00 and possibly 15.00. The tour takes around an hour and people do not have to commit to it until we arrive at the venue. There is an extra cost of £6 per person so members can decide on the day according to the weather and how they feel about it. The nearest part of the stone circle is only a few hundred yards from the manor. \n  \nExploring the manor is a self-guided activity. There are no guided tours. To get the best out of exploring the manor you need to use a two-stage flight of stairs to get to the upper floor. There is a banister rail at all points and a half-way point with enough space to rest between flights. Like most NT properties\, the manor features a café\, shop\, bookshop\, etc. \nCost: £ 22.50 per person\nDeparture:\n• 9.15 a.m. Spinfield Lane\n• 9.20 a.m. Liston Road bus stop (A4155 opposite Liston Hall)\n• 9.25 a.m. Bus Stop outside Britannia\nArrive Back: 5.30 p.m. Approximately \nMarlow National Trust Association is not responsible for third party links and websites \nPlease either complete the Booking Form below (for payment by EFT/BACS) or if you prefer to book in the traditional way\, or need pay by cheque\, please use the booking form to be found in the October 2026 MNTA newsletter or email.\nIf the trip is fully subscribed when your booking is received\, you’ll get a full refund.\nThe organiser\, Michael\, will confirm your place by email in due course. \nNOTE: Do not forget to bring your NT membership card or you will be required to pay the non member entrance charge. \n\nPlease enable JavaScript in your browser to complete this form. Please enable JavaScript in your browser to complete this form. \n in but those\n \n \n Name *FirstLastSecond Name (If applicable)FirstLastEmail *Mobile Number *Name of a relative or friend to contact in case of emergency on the day of the outing. *FirstLastTelephone number of Emergency Contact *Places Required at £22.50 each *One placeTwo placesTotal£0.00I would like to board the coach at: *9.15 Spinfield Lane9.20 Liston Road Bus Stop (A4155 opposite Liston Hall)9.25 The Britannia Bus StopIn making this application\, I am confirming that those named above can undertake the outing without assistance and understand that participation is at their own risk. SUMMARY:New Year Walk
DESCRIPTION:Dust off the January Blues with the first of our 2027 activities. Guess what —- we are heading for “the” event of the year……….The New Year Walk! \nThe 2027 walk is starting off at Harleyford Golf Club (smart or what!) where we shall have lunch in the clubhouse.  The entrance is just outside Marlow\, off the Henley Road – SL7 2SP.\nWe shall meet at 10.30 a.m. in the car park and set off at 10.45 a.m.   Parking is plentiful\, though not in the Captain’s/Vice Captain’s spaces!\nIt is basically a flat walk in woodland\, hence a lot of tree roots to watch out for.   There are no stiles but one busy road to cross.  It could be muddy and poles are recommended. \nIf you are unable to join us for the walk\, please join us for lunch from 12.15 p.m. \nPlease let us know by 8th JANUARY\, 2027\, if you wish to join us by completing and submitting the form below or using the contact details in the October newsletter. \n\nPlease enable JavaScript in your browser to complete this form. Please enable JavaScript in your browser to complete this form.Name *FirstLast \n Second Email Number\n \n \n Second Name (If applicable)FirstLastEmail *Contact Telephone Number *Submit \n

SUMMARY:Outing to NT Hinton Ampner
DESCRIPTION:Hinton Ampner house and gardens have been much improved in recent years and now reflect the last owner’s vision of a quintessentially English country estate. A particularly good display of daffodils is said (by the NT) to be seen in the extensive gardens. \n \nThe house is now presented in the Georgian revival style to which the last owner (Ralph Dutton) remodelled it in the 1930s and then restored it after a substantial fire in 1960. All the main downstairs rooms and several bedrooms – each fully furnished – can be visited. As the NT’s website indicates\, there is nowadays a lot to see and do both indoors and out. \nThe formal gardens include some gentle terracing with great views out into the countryside. We hope to be able to organise a tour with one of the gardening volunteers. Moreover\, the wider estate also features a number of walks\, accessible from a point close to the house. \n \nRight next to the NT house and gardens complex\, All Saints church (Hinton Ampner) is also worth a visit.\nLike most substantial NT properties\, Hinton Ampner has a shop\, secondhand bookshop and a café (which was refurbished in 2025). \nThe coach parking point is unusually close to the house\, café\, shops and church – all are accessible on firm hard (tarmac) paths. Entering the house involves a few steps\, and the internal tour route includes one-and a half floors of indoor staircase\, mostly with handrails. To make the most of the gardens\, you’ll need shoes that grip – many of the footpaths through the gardens are across grass\, and indeed some may be closed if it is particularly wet. \nExpected timings:\nDepart: 9.30 am. Bus stop at bottom of Spinfield Lane\n9.35 am. Liston Road Bus stop (A4155 opposite Liston Hall)\n9.40 am. Bus stop outside Britannia\, by Bobmore Lane junction\nArrive back in Marlow: 5.00 pm – 5.30pm \nPrice: £23.00 per person \nDon’t forget your NT membership cards or you will be required to pay the non members entrance fee. \nThis outing will be available to book from mid December and bookings will close Thursday 18 February or earlier if sold out. \nIf you enjoy these outings why not support the Outings Subcommittee to ensure that they continue into the future? If you would like to talk with one of the committee about how you might help (and there is no need to join the committee if you don’t want to) then please fill out the form below and one of the committee will get back to you. \nMNTA is not responsible for third party links and websites. \n\nPlease enable JavaScript in your browser to complete this form. Please enable JavaScript in your browser to complete this form. \n Number Name Email\n \n \n Name *FirstLastEmail *Contact Telephone NumberSubmit
