SUMMARY:Outing to NT Dyrham Park
DESCRIPTION:Dyrham (meaning “valley of the deer”) is a fine baroque house\, which has undergone a big project of restoration and is set in 270 acres of ancient parkland. \nDo come and explore! The main phases of conservation and decorative work in the house are now complete. Experiencing the house is multi-sensory. As well as the visual impact\, there are objects to feel and touch and scents to take in. Music\, live and recorded\, rings through the Great Hall\, birdsong fills the entrance hall\, and a short film brings to life the context of the house’s place in history. \nSplendid borders\, idyllic ponds and a wildflower orchard are all features of the stunning garden which is being sensitively developed as a 21st-century garden with echoes of the past. \nThere is a café; shop; plants; second-hand book and picnic areas. \nIt is a ¾ mile/1.2km walk from the car park to the house and gardens. The walk is downhill on arrival\, a steep uphill walk on return (1:8 gradient)\, through the historic parkland which affords wonderful views. Two electric accessibility buses run up and down the hill for those who feel they cannot manage the hill. \nPLEASE REMEMBER YOUR NATIONAL TRUST CARD \nCost: £24.00 \nCoach Pick up: \n\n8.45 am.
